25 years ago, shortly following the birth of rap and the immersion of break-dancing, three teenagers from the Bronx took hip-hop into their own hands by creating colorful, controversial subway graffiti. “TATS CRU: The Mural Kings” is a feature length documentary that captures a rare behind the scenes look at the TATS CRU constructing their 2004 mural for “The Graffiti Hall of Fame” in Harlem, NY. Packed with never before seen photographs, archival footage, and exclusive interviews, director/producer Mark Kotlinski delves into the 25-year journey of this world-renowned sector of graffiti artists turned professional muralists. TATS CRU speaks to the masses through aerosol cans of spray paint in their attempt to transform the negative concept of graffiti into an accepted and embraced art form. Known in New York City urban neighborhoods for their murals of R.I.P. memorials of late hip hop artists and other fallen street soldiers, they are recognized worldwide for their advertising and commercial appeal. Featuring: TATS CRU Members; Fat Joe; Hot 97’s DJ Kay Slay; NYPD Vandal Squad; The Graffiti Hall of Fame … and more.
